Police are investigating the death of a 29-year-old employee from Pizza and Pasta takeaway restaurant in Louis Botha Avenue, Norwood, who was shot in the back while preparing pizzas for customers.

Johannesburg police spokesperson Chris Wilken said shots were fired from outside the restaurant, killing an employee and injuring the owner in the left arm.

"There were three customers in the shop when the incident took place, but none of them saw what happened," Wilken said.

Wilken said the employee was declared dead by paramedics who arrived at the scene soon after the shooting.

The owner was taken to a local clinic and treated for a flesh wound.

"The motive for the murder is unknown as nothing was taken from the shop," Wilken said.

The employee's next of kin have not been informed. - Sapa
