Michelle’s Golden Globes success

One of our favourite stars, Michelle Williams, won Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in My week with Marilyn, the same award Marilyn won in 1960.

Paying tribute to her daughter Matilda (with late actor Heath Ledger), Michelle said, “Gosh, you know, I consider myself a mother first and an actress second, and the first person i want to thank is my daughter. My little girl. Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for putting in my hand the same award that Marilyn herself won over 50 years ago.” The stunning starlet’s touching tribute to her daughter left us all reaching for the tissues – and her GLAMOURous gown took our breath away, too! Elsewhere, Meryl Streep won Best Actress in a Drama for her portrayal of the former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady and thanked the UK for allowing her to “trample over their history.”

George Clooney won Best Actor in a Drama for his role in The Descendants, while Best Director went to Martin Scorcese for Hugo who received a standing ovation and admitted that his 12-year-old daughter read the book and gave him the inspiration to produce the movie.

The star-studded ceremony, held at Los Angeles Beverly Hilton Hotel was hosted by British comedian Ricky Gervais for the second year in a row, and his jokes proved to as controversial as ever. Opening the show he said, “It’s so good having a job where you can get drunk and say what you want. And they still pay me.” We’re interested to see if he gets rehired for the gig next year!
