GLAM Chat!

We caught up with Oriel Barnard, owner and designer of Lisp clothing, to find out what she’s loving and lusting after at the moment, and which trends fashion-forward GLAMOUR girls will be following this season!

Why did you choose a career in fashion?

I never had that moment where I asked myself “ what do I wane be when I grow up?” I just

always knew. from very little I had a natural love for arts and fashion-then it was crayon

drawing and dress up.

• If I see you out on the street, what are you most likely to be wearing?

That easy, short statement shorts (high waisted floral shorts, distressed bleach denim shorts,

silver shorts) and a distressed white T-shirt, accessorized with a leather belt, silver necklaces

and rings

• What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe?

It must be my big faux fur leopard print jacket, I adore it.

• How would you describe your style?

Laid back, yet fashionable rock chic, with a dash of grunge.

• How similar is your personal style to the style of the clothes you design?

Haha, its basically the same. I only design what I would wear myself, and my muse of course.

I love dressing out of my sample rail.

• What are the style essentials that every woman should own?

A pair of well fitted black skinnys

A white T-shirt

A pair of killer heels

Denim shorts

A beautiful jacket/coat that you can take with you everywhere and threw on when it gets

chilly.

• So, I’m cleaning out my closet. What am I throwing out?

You are throwing out the garments who are so over warn they look like a cleaning cloth and

the ones that do not fit, and if a garment sits in you closet because its not your style-through

it! The rest…if you don’t wear it anymore but you still love it, pack it away ( not in your

closet, somewhere else) and then in a years time or so go look what you have hidden, I rotate

my closet like that all the time.

How can wearing colour be made easy? Does this change a lot if I’m dark-skinned?, or

very pale skinned?

If your dark skinned you can wear absolutely any colour-white, black ,neon ,pastels-it all

look gorgeous! I’m envious. when you are pale skinned you have to be more selective when

it comes to colour, you easily pick up what colour makes you pop. If your not big on colour

but love a new trend like neon, you can bring it in your look with accessories such as a belt or

handbag, even sunglasses.

I’m about to invest in one stylish item – What is it I’m investing in?

A pair of short leather boots-grunge style

How can I stay on point this season, when I’m on a budget?

There are many ways-get creative. My favorite it whipping out the paint, bleach and dye. then

add a little snip snip. You can find wonderful tutorials on blogs about revamping your clothes

according to trends.

What are your style ‘no go’s?

Wearing clothing that is to small for you.

What do you predict will be this season’s top trend?

Metallics
