Today I’m wearing…

Meet Aqeelah Harron, fashion blogger and GLAMOUR.co.za contributor, she will be taking us inside her fabulous wardrobe by sharing her style choices everyday! We chatted to her to find out more about her style and what inpsires her.

GLAMOUR: How would you describe your style?

Aqeelah: My style isn’t something specific. Sometimes I’m a tomboy, sometimes I channel old Hollywood, sometimes it’s bohemian… I’ll do anything really!  It all depends on my mood, you can’t ever be too sure ‘which Aqeelah’ is going to rock up on the day!

Why do you love fashion?

It’s a costume – a mix of colours, textures and proportion… like a collage! I’m a very visual person, in the sense that I take an ‘unusual’ interest in things looking good, so it’s only natural  that fashion would excite me.

What are five things you simply can’t live without?

1. My camera – my best accessory

2. Converse All Stars

3. An extra clothing stash in my car

4. An electric shaver for my undercut

5. Stimorol Infinity gum

Whose style inspires you?

Anna Dello Russo, Kate Moss, Edie Sedgewick and Sarah Jessica Parker.

What’s your favourite fashion splurge?

Shoes! Always.

What music are you listening to right now?

“Shot For Me” by Drake

What do you always keep in your handbag?

Elizabeth Arden’s 8 Hour Cream

Any ‘secret’ beauty products you can tell us about?

I swear by MAC’s Fixer Spray. It helps avoid your make-up looking ‘caked!’

Where do you shop?

Absolutely everywhere! From more high-end stores, to chain stores, charity stores, markets and even my brother’s closet.

What are your top tips for cost effective shopping?

Splurge on pieces that will last, like leather goods and jeans. Don’t over spend loads of money on statement pieces and don’t scramble to follow a trend!

What’s your one tip for taking your outfit up a notch?

Don’t wear cheap looking shoes! Shoes are what ties an outfit altogether. Leather bags and belts also do absolute wonders.

Who is your favourite designer – internationally and locally?

Internationally – I have always been a huge Elie Saab fan. The intricate beading and craftmanship of his work is astounding.

Locally – Cleo Droomer. I love how the architecture of his garments celebrate the female frame, as well his use of texture and print, which is always so interesting.

What makes you feel GLAM?

Sequins,  feathers, ridiculous heels and good hair days!
