‘Please help me update my beauty look!’

People were noticing Jackie’s streak before noticing her: not good! Our beauty experts fixed that, big time.

Step 1

Start by looking at photos of yourself as a child, as that’s a great basis for finding your ideal hair hue. Before we go through puberty, our hair is a few shades lighter than it is afterwards and this reflects our true colouring. Hairdresser Amy Hudson took Jackie back to her natural colour before painting on lots of honey highlights to lift her complexion.

Step 2

Finding the right shade isn’t the only hurdle – if your hair isn’t healthy, your colour won’t hold, so deep-condition weekly. We love Dove Daily Care Conditioner (R42.99).

Step 3

Hairstylist Kevin Mancuso updated Jackie’s waves by cutting layers vertically (ask your stylist to try it, as it’s an easy way to add volume!). He then curled it with an iron, leaving the ends straight for a modern take on big hair.

Step 4

Finally, makeup pro Vincent Oquendo applied the basics (tinted moisturiser, rosy blush, pink lips) and had fun with her eyes by sweeping a silver eyeshadow across the lid and a pale grey on her upper browbone. The striking, finishing touch? Navy mascara! “I wouldn’t have had the guts to do this myself – but I love it,” says Jackie.
