James Franco hints at ‘Spring Breakers’ prequel

James Franco has hinted at a prequel to Spring Breakers.

The actor played drug-dealing rapper Alien in director Harmony Korine’s teen crime movie, which also starred Ashley Benson, Vanessa Hudgens and Selena Gomez, and he has revealed there has been talk of a prequel movie featuring his character.

Quizzed about a potential sequel, he told MTV News: “I mean, Harmony and I are certainly going to do something else together. I don’t think Harmony really wants do to Spring Breakers 2. He’s not the one who’s been talking about it.

“Although, when we were making the movie, there was talk of a prequel. My character and Gucci Mane’s character were supposed to have been former friends, so we at one time talked about, ‘What was that like? Let’s make that movie!’ So there’s that. There’s a prequel version, or there’s the version of Alien’s friend or something. I don’t know.”

The actor-and-director also revealed that the film’s producers have approached him about helming the potential prequel or sequel should Korine decline. He said: “They’ve asked me if I’m interested. I don’t know. It’s really just talk.”
