The Horrible Histories series. Because who wouldn’t love reading about the Rotten Romans, Groovy Greeks and Awesome Egyptians? Their illustrations entertained me for hours – the fact that it was based on REAL history was all the more fascinating.

I read a lot of Roald Dahl books, but The BFG was my favourite. I particularly enjoyed the friendship between the protagonist Sophie and the BFG, the world’s only friendly giant who collects good dreams and distributes them to children. And the adventure they embark on in preventing all the other evil giants from eating any more humans.
