How to wear the ‘sporty’ trend

Great so you’ve got the sneakers and the track pants, but how do you wear it without looking like you’re going to sweat it out at the gym? Global Body Trend Forecaster for CottonOn BODY, Stephanie Keen, gives us her top tips on how to style the ‘ath-fash’ trend the right way.

1 Mix it up

The ‘ath-fash’ trend about mixing your activewear with higher fashion pieces. “Think a pair of track pants teamed with a lace bralette and low cut muscle tank,” says Stephanie. It’s all about easy-going fashion with a sporty influence.

2 Embrace the active lifestyle

“People are embracing more active lifestyles and are so incredibly busy that comfort has become a big factor, but they still want to look good,” explains Stephanie. Enter the ath-fash trend: fashion meets function.

3 Where it am and pm

“We call it the ‘to and from’ trend. You can wear it to yoga, to breakfast, to the school drop-off or home from the gym or even brunch. And then take it out on the town to a bar or club!” says Stephanie.

4 Know your key pieces

Whether you go bright with printed leggings or black for a more understated look, there’s a look to suit everyone. My top picks would be:

– A puffer vest

– Lace bralette

– Track pants

– Muscle tank

– A crop top

5 Keep it modern

“Opt for track pants that feature a ‘slimmer’ leg, a wider waistband and detailing like stripes,” says Stephanie. This kind of detailing is perfect when pairing with higher-end items.

6 Work it!

“Be to be confident!” says Stephanie. This look is about attitude. “And make sure you update your wardrobe… it is all about casual, clean lines after all”.

7  No, you can’t wear your old gym pants!

“Ath-fash doesn’t mean you can wear your 10 year old trackies out of the house. You need to replace them with a new on-trend track pant. It’s all about silhouettes, detailing and a slimmer fit,” says Stephanie.

8 Pairing is important

Out and about? “Pair track pants with a soft cup, lace bralette and a low-cut muscle tank to keep the look street-style-casual yet still feminine,” says Stephanie. And if you’re heading to the gym? “Swap the track pants for bright, printed leggings and a workout bra. Then throw on a puffer vest to top off the look.”
