Mary J. Blige touches down in South Africa

Queen of hip hop and soul, the legendary Mary J. Blige has officially landed on our turf – and we couldn’t be more excited!

Mary was spotted leaving O.R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg yesterday morning; mega luggage and entourage in tow, of course. The A-lister kept a low profile hiding under a cute spotted cap and oversized glasses.

For the first time in Africa, BET presents BET Experience Africa, an electrifying urban entertainment and lifestyle extravaganza at the Ticketpro Dome on Saturday, 12 December 2015. This non-stop 12-hour jam-packed entertainment fest features some of the world’s best music performers, including Mary J. Blige, Maxwell and Raphael Saadiq.

The BET Africa Experience will also include a fun-packed celebrity basketball game, a hilarious  Comedy Central stage, a series of uplifting and informative Genius Talks, a Fashion, Beauty & Health Expo showcasing the hottest brands and trends, a Hunting for Sneaks display and a daytime Sound Stage with performances by top African artists.

Mary recently received rave reviews for her portrayal of  The Wiz Live’s Evilene. This modernised adaptation of the classic The Wizard of Oz sees   Mary playing the icon role of the Wicked Witch Of the West, but we don’t think she’s ever looked as glamorous as she does here! With her breathtaking costume and soulful spirit, Mary completely stole the show .

When it was announced that Mary had signed on to play Evilene, we knew it was going to be something special and her performance was everything we hoped it would be. “I can’t wait to watch Mary bring the badness that is Evilene,” director Kenny Leon said at the time. “Her talent range is off the charts and I know audiences won’t be able to take their eyes off her.”
