7 New year beauty resolutions

Got things on your to-do list that you never quite get to? Here’s your guide to ticking them off and feeling awesome!

1 I RESOLVE TO

Apply makeup like and expert

4 Tips for when your eye makeup doesn’t go to plan

When mascara smears… use a cotton bud to fix it.

When eyeliner fades in a blink… use a liquid liner – it lasts longer and it’s more intense.

When you have no mascara… dot black pencil in the roots to create the illusion of fuller, thicker lashes.

When nothing will cover under-eye circles… try a brightening blush to detract.

2 I RESOLVE TO

Sort out my brows

Time to get them under control

Tweeze hairs under the brow, but don’t mess with the shape. Lightly sketch in your brows to give a full, neat effect.

3 I RESOLVE TO

Do these important things

Feel – and look – better in a flash

- Keep my stomach in and shoulders back

Are you slouching as you read this? We’re not going to make you balance books on your head, but it’s a good way to remember your posture.

- Stop frowning

It contributes to wrinkles – and smiling is way prettier.

- Take deep breaths

It gives an all-over feeling of calm and helps us de-stress.

4 I RESOLVE TO

Get sexy, sandal-ready feet

Try these easy tips for your tootsies

- Invest in an oil

Massage your feet and toenails with oil every time you get out of the shower.

- Detox your polish

Take a break from lacquer.

- Buff regularly

It protects the nail, adds shine and helps varnish stay on for longer.

5 I RESOLVE TO

Not be a product hoarder

Beauty products have a shelf life, so start cleaning out

- Keep your fingers out of creamy products. Use a spatula so that you don’t mix in dirt and bacteria.

- Wash your brushes regularly – you’re constantly mixing skin’s oil into powders.

- Don’t pump your mascara brush in and out of the tube – it pushes in air, which dries out the product.

6 I RESOLVE TO

Find my ideal foundation shade

Foundation lines aren’t a good look on anyone

If you have oily skin… try a powder foundation that’s light and buildable.

If you have dry skin… look for hydrating ingredients to keep skin dewy.

If you have acne-prone skin… invest in an oil-free product that has salicylic acid.

If you have normal skin… stick with light coverage – it’s all you need.

7 I RESOLVE TO

Wash my hair properly

Yup – we still get it wrong! Try these tips

Wash hair with lukewarm water… and make sure your whole head is wet – this helps spread shampoo all over.

Think of a size… somewhere between a R1 and R5 coin – that’s how small an amount of shampoo you must use.

Squeeze shampoo into hands… rather than directly onto your head – this ensures a thorough cleanse. Then rinse.

Remove excess water… before applying conditioner, and never put it on your scalp (hello, flat hair).
