Should you cut a fringe à la Gigi Hadid?

There’s no question that a fringe is the quickest way to transform your locks and when supermodel Gigi Hadid arrived at the MTV Music Awards with a full, blunt fringe, it got us all excited to try out a new look. Before you go for the snip, follow our fringe rules:

1 Go to a pro

Don’t tempt fate by cutting your fringe yourself. It needs an expert hand and a quick consultation to get the right shape for your face and your hair type. The bonus is that most stylist’s will give you a free fringe trim when you need it later.

2 Consider your hair type

If your hair is curly and frizzy, know that you’re going to need extra time in the morning to get it under control. Alternatively, ask your stylist to do a straightening treatment on the fringe area alone, to save you the hassle. If your hair is thick, a thick fringe will work well. Thinner lengths? Go for a wispy or sideswept fringe instead.

3 Think about your face shape

A blunt, full fringe like Gigi’s looks good on square face shapes while those with round or heart shaped faces are flattered by sideswept strands. Have an oval face shape? You’re lucky – you can get away with any style.

4 Get the right tools

Start your styling with wet hair and add a straightening product to the ends. Use a flat boar-bristle brush as you blow-dry (a round one makes it too curved and bouncy) and move the hair from side to side as you blast it. Finish with a spritz of hairspray.

Still feeling a bit uncertain? Here’s how to find a fringe to suit your face shape and ease your mind!
