Inside New York Fashion Week: The Charles Youssef show

Fashion and technology merged when this designer collaborated with trendsetting hair brand TRESemmé and tech company Samsung.

The fashion

To emphasise the geek-chic theme, models wore pastel tones and pretty pleats, ultra-feminine bias cuts and bold stitching. The shirtdress was a major feature.

The vibe

In contrast to the classic styles, guests attending the show were asked to wear virtual reality goggles to get a glimpse into the world of imagery. One eye was kept open while the other allowed the attendees to see the models through video vignettes. If you weren’t invited to the show, you were able to experience the virtual catwalk show from home.

The hair

Inspired by Youssef’s laid-back ready-to-wear collection, TRESemmé celebrity stylist Orlando Pita created the half-up, half-down twisted bun – a simple-looking style, but one that requires more technique than you’d expect.

Orlando and his team created natural volume using the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume reverse system before applying the Maximizer to damp hair. The roughly-dried, textured lengths were then woven tightly into the shape of a bun at the back of the head. Some strands were left to fall free – creating an ethereal result.

You can be a hair pro too! Find out how to do a simpler version of the style with TRESemmé products. See the how-to video, here!
