Selena Gomez and The Weeknd have broken up after 10 months of dating.
The news of the split came just days after Selena was spotted hanging out with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber, causing fans to believe that he had something to do with it. However, a source has confirmed that Selena and The Weeknd (real name, Abel) had in fact called it quits due to their busy work schedules long before she was seen with Bieber.

“It was more of a mutual break up. They were distant because of work,” the source told E! News. “It didn’t end in a bad way. The relationship was basically over before Justin Bieber and Selena hung out.”
The sources added: “Abel is not upset about Selena and Justin hanging out. [He] is not dwelling over anything.”
Just over a month ago, it was reported that Selena and The Weeknd had moved in together in YC’s Greenwich Village, so the news of their split has come as a shock to fans. The pair were first reported to be dating at the end of last year but went public at this year’s Met Gala.

Speaking on Ryan Seacrest’s TV show back in June, Selena revealed the reason why she decided to confirm her relationship with The Weeknd: “It’s really hard when I would want to spend so much time hiding things. It’s too much pressure, and I think everyone gets over everything eventually. I just want to be happy. If that’s me just being myself, then I don’t really care.”
Selena also opened up about putting herself and her relationships first, over her career: “I’ve been doing this for so long and I needed a second to breathe. When I did that, I came back and I had it for a while, and I think it’s safe to say I feel like I have a whole album put together at this point. I wanted to make sure my life was balanced and happy and healthy first.”
Selena and The Weeknd have yet to comment on their break-up.
