After recently starring in The Greatest Showman and Spider Man: Homecoming, Zendaya is headed back to television. The former star of Disney Channel’s K.C. Undercover has been confirmed to lead a completely stacked cast for the newest HBO drama.
For her latest role, Zendaya has joined the cast of HBO’s Euphoria and will portray a 17-year-old girl named Rue who struggles with substance use disorder, Deadline reported. The series is based off an Israeli series, and reportedly explores some very 13 Reasons Why-esque themes including relationships, substance abuse, identity, social media, and trauma.
Other cast members joining the often innovative actor include Storm Reid as Gia, Maude Apatow as Lexi, Brian “Astro” Bradley as McKay, Angus Cloud as Fezco, Eric Dane as Cal, Alexa Demie as Maddy, Jacob Elordi as Nate, Barbie Ferreira as Kat, Nika King as Leslie, Hunter Schafer as Jules, and Sydney Sweeney as Cassie, Variety reported.
A premiere date for the pilot episode hasn’t yet been announced, but fans on social media are already speculating over the success of the show. “Euphoria is gonna bring zendaya [a] golden globe and emmy nominations, i speak that into existence, i’ve planted that seed and i will see the harvest,” one user tweeted. Others have also pointed how Storm will reportedly play Zendaya’s sister, and have described the moment as a blessing.
