Drake’s new song ‘Finesse’ is maybe-possibly-totally about Bella Hadid

Bella Hadid herself has weighed in on the speculation that Drake’s new song “Finesse,” which has lyrics like “Fashion Week is more your thing than mine,” is about her. According to the model, she and the rapper are just friends, nothing more. “WHY CANT PPL BE FRIENDS W/o all the insinuation,” she tweeted in response to someone suggesting that she has “banged” Drake. See for yourself, below:

Not me!!!🤷🏻‍♀️that’s disrespectful. WHY CANT PPL BE FRIENDS W/o all the insinuation 🤭🧐😩🤬

Last fall Bella Hadid and Drake had a rumoured fling, but it was never confirmed or denied. The closest thing we received to any sort of hint was when Bella’s mother, Yolanda, revealed Drake and Bella were “friends” on  Watch What Happens Live in October.

It seems both parties have moved on from whatever happened, though. Hadid has reportedly been seeing her ex-boyfriend The Weeknd again, and Drake just admitted on his album  Scorpion that he fathered a child with French former adult-film star Sophie Brussaux.

And that’s not the only thing Drake talks about on his new album, which dropped Friday (June 29). On the song  “Finesse,” Drake appears to reference the time he spent with Hadid last year. “I’m going against my own advice / Should I do New York I can’t decide / Fashion Week is more your thing than mine,” he raps at one point during the song. Hadid is, of course, a wildly successful supermodel and New York Fashion Week staple.

“You and your sister / Too hot to handle,” he raps in a later verse, presumably referring to Hadid’s model sister Gigi.

Those are the two most concrete references to Hadid in the song, but you can read between the lines on a few others. “It takes some finesse / I seen you finesse / He can’t know finesse,” Drake says during the chorus. (The “he” here might be a nod to The Weeknd.) Also, keep in mind that the track directly following “Finesse” on  Scorpion is “Ratchet Happy Birthday.” And Drake reportedly threw a birthday bash for Hadid in October. It’s what started their relationship rumours in the first place.

Of course, this is all conjecture. It’s entirely possible Drake’s referring to someone else on “Finesse,” but the evidence heavily points to Hadid. Plus, he makes a literal reference to Gigi and Bella on his song “Sandra’s Rose”: “My house is full of supermodels just like Mohamed Hadid.” If anything, this proves Bella Hadid was for sure on Drake’s mind when he recorded this album.
