The super simple pressure point techniques that’ll relieve period pain and migraines

Acupressure has long been used as an alternative treatment for pain and nausea relief, but the benefits don’t stop there. Therapist,  Lari Yugai, has just opened her own acupressure practice in Mayfair where she specialises in applying pressure to the face to counteract the signs of ageing. For 40 years, Lari has smoothed wrinkles, lifted eyelids, and corrected natural defects and cured period pain.

And while you’ll always receive the best results from a professional (Lari says sometimes millimetres matter), here she shares a few pain relieving pressure points you can try yourself.

1. Pressure points for period pain

Surprisingly, the pressure points for soothing period pain are nowhere near your stomach.

“There are two steps to take, with both areas at the bottom of the chin”, says Lari.

Step one requires two fingers (your pointers) to be placed on either side of the point of your chin, about one centimetre apart. Apply pressure from the front, pushing towards the back of your head.

Step two requires a single finger placed directly in the centre of the chin, where the gap was left before. Apply pressure in the same way.

2. Pressure points for tired eyes

If your eyes are strained from staring at a screen all day, try this the next time you need a peeper perk up.

Again, this method works in two steps.

Step 1: Hold each of your pointer fingers in the middle of the bottom of each eye socket while looking up for 10 seconds, then look down and release.

Step 2: Using your thumbs, place each one at the top of your eye socket while looking down. Then look straight and release.

3. Pressure points for seasickness

There are a few pressure points you can use when feeling nauseous or seasick.

Lari says to try pressing behind the bottom of the ear, or by pressing two thumbs at the same time, at the spot between your eyes and brow line.

And lastly, you can try pressing the spot in between your eyes on the brow line.

4. Pressure points for headaches

Pressure points for headaches will depend on the root cause. It can be down to the sinuses, ears, liver or indigestion and this would determine the type of acupressure treatment.

If you’re a regular headache sufferer, it’s best to seek professional help on which points to pay attention to.
