Watch: Brand New Glamour – A fresh start

I was born in Alice, and grew up between Bhisho and King William’s Town. Black Twitter might call us Eastern Cape kids “Shamrock Twitter”, but I’m very proud of my roots – and our local pastry favourite. My mother, who single-handedly raised me and my siblings through challenging circumstances, encouraged hard work, individuality, free expression and activism. From her, I learnt the importance of championing women, new voices and uniting people who come from diverse backgrounds. When I began my journey into the creative industry, I vowed to use my platform to open doors of opportunity for others. And now, I am at the helm of this powerful global brand called  GLAMOUR

I’m proud to introduce two women who are new to our pages. Thando Hopa, who is inspiring for her fierce activism, renowned for her mesmerizing beauty and respected for the content of her character. We celebrate the role of local hip-hop – which has always been a mirror of modern culture, and we acknowledge its influence in fashion. Nadia Nakai is a headliner, making her mark in a male-dominated industry.

On the cover, we’re pictured wearing designs by another rising talent, Shana Morland. The sparkly sequined stars which are stitched into the fabric of our garments mimics the star power of the women I am honoured to present. We all come from diverse backgrounds, yet share not only the same lipstick shade and choice of designer but the common factor of being women who stand for sisters celebrating sisters.

We have refreshed our pages by doing away with the traditional flow of a magazine. Our magazine is now compiled into four sections: #Look, #Feel, #Live and #Think. We invite you to explore the content of these pages and join in the conversation of a #BrandNewGLAMOUR on our social media platforms.

I hope the cast of women in our new chapter will surprise you. I hope our stories and visuals will entice you. As you turn each page, my hope is that you will feel the joy our team felt putting this issue together, and be anxious to see what’s next.

Welcome to the new age.

Love,

Asanda Sizani
