This is why you should never sleep on cotton sheets

There’s nothing better than freshly ironed cotton sheets. Oh wait, there is. Silk pillowcases are reported to provide impressive beauty benefits including preventing wrinkles and avoiding bedhead. But is silk all it’s hyped up to be?

“Silk fibres are significantly less absorbent than many other materials, so they can help keep your skin’s moisture and expensive face and hair products where they belong…on your face and hair, where they can work their anti-ageing magic,” explains Fiona Stewart, CEO and Founder of  SLIP.

As we all know, as skin ages, it stops producing collagen and loses elasticity. This means that when we sleep and put our heads on the pillow, creases can form from the pressure and friction between your skin and the material. “These creases can be gradually ‘ironed in’ over the years, making your skin appear more wrinkled than it really is,” says Fiona.

While cotton has a high absorption rate and also causes a significant amount of friction – and yet, most of our pillowcases are made from it.

“Slip uses silk that has been scientifically tested to absorb significantly less face cream and create 43% less friction or ‘drag,’ on average, versus cotton pillowcases.”

Sweet, silky dreams, peeps!
