The epic saga that has been Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson’s coupledom, from whirlwind start to surprise engagement to a shared apartment to pet pig, has consumed the public’s attention for the past few months. But alas, it seems this roller coaster has reached its end for now: On Sunday evening, TMZ reported that the couple had called it quits. We’re so sorry to be the ones to break it to you.
Citing “sources close to the former couple,” TMZ said that the two split up this weekend, “with both parties acknowledging that it simply was not the right time for their relationship to take off.” People released its own report soon after, with an unnamed source close to Grande saying: “It was way too much too soon… It’s not shocking to anyone.” Neither Grande nor Davidson have confirmed or responded to the rumours.
Grande has been taking time off for her mental health in the weeks following the death of ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, cancelling performances and appearances. In the possibly related news (though, unconfirmed by the couple), Davidson was photographed on October 9, and it appeared that he had covered up a Grande-inspired tattoo on his neck.
The two had met on the set of Saturday Night Live back in March 2016, when Grande was performing, and dated other people for two years (Grade was with Miller, Davidson with Cazzie David.) In May of this year, both confirmed they had split from their significant others, and rumours that they were dating started to appear. On June 20, they announced they were engaged.
Twitter, naturally, is heartbroken over the news:
