The most important step when caring for your skin comes with understanding your specific skin type and how it adapts to certain circumstances, products or seasonal changes.
Every person’s skin is unique and taking the time to learn your skin’s specific needs will help you to choose the right skincare product options that will balance your skin resulting in a healthier, more radiant complexion.
When we talk about skin types, we mainly refer to the 3 main skin types, namely: Oily; Normal/Combination and Dry. But how does one know which one they have?
GLAMOUR caught up with Mariette and Carla, owners of SkinPhD Queenswood, and got the lowdown on how to conduct an at-home skin type test.
Here’s how to do an at-home skin type test:
Step 1: Wash your face with a gentle cleanser - avoid scrubbing too hard.
Step 2: Dry your face and leave without applying any product.
- If your face feels tight then you have dry skin.
- After blotting your skin with tissue and there is oil on your T-Zone (forehead, nose and chin) but not cheeks, then it’s combination.
- When doing the same tissue test on your cheeks and there’s an oily shine on your t-zone and cheeks you have oily skin.
What ingredients should one look for when looking for a cleanser?
A highly effective, gentle and non-drying cleanser that includes ingredients such as:
Salicylic Acid – soothing and anti-inflammatory.
Hylauron – to hydrate and firm skin.
Papain – to clear oil and a good antioxidant.
Ceramides and vitamins - to lock in moisture.
These can be done at SkinPhD Queenswood, a tranquil and peaceful setting where you will receive bespoke treatments to enhance your outer and inner beauty. Their salon offers a wide variety of beauty treatments from massages and waxes, to advanced facials and aesthetic beauty treatments.
