Lady Zamar, then Sis, you been missing out. The multi-award winning and hit-making songstress is one of the biggest things in South African music right now. Her song Collide was in the Top 5 most streamed songs in the country in 2018, and she just bagged a gig headling alongside American songbird Tamia, whose coming to the country to perform this February. Lady Zamar is not an opening act, Nah fam, she is a headline act. Talk about securing that bag!If you are reading this and you haven't heard of
GLAMOUR chatted to Lady Zamar a few days ago to get some tea on the upcoming show and more.
You are headlining with Tamia, how does that feel?
We (my friends and I) have always loved Tamia and knowing she is coming to South Africa and I get to be the artist on stage with her is more than a privilege, its an honour. To share the stage with not only her but her fans, who are from all age groups and demographics is just surreal. I am looking forward to it.
What can we expect from that set?
I will be performing my new single, that's dropping soon and all my other songs. One of my performances is going to have a military band, who will perform a couple of songs with me. My band will be on fire, my outfits will be crazy. It's going to be perfect.
2018 seemed to be the year when your career really blew up?
2018 was more like reaping the awards for me. 2017 was when my career decided to stand on its own two feet, that was the year I became a solid solo artist and I was recognized and praised by industry peeps. I am just grateful that my music, particularly Collide managed to help raise my status as an artist.
When people started falling madly in love with your music, were you surprised?
Yes and no. I believe that you are your first experiment and your first fan, you are the primary and you are the base as an artist. I love my music and I always expect people to also love my music. When they don't it's okay and when they do, I am grateful they were able to see my vision in the way I intended it to be seen.
What I am surprised about is how many people love the music, that just has completely shocked me.
Your song Collide was one of the most streamed songs in 2018. Why do you think the song is so popular and what does it mean to you?
It was the most streamed song and also the most played song of 2018. I think the reason why people love it is, it speaks about the innocence of love and fear at the same time. I think a lot of people love to romanticize and make it a fantasy, and Collide is about the anxiety of not knowing whether or not someone is going to love you the way you want them to love you. It's also a song that allows people to express the depth of someone's existence in their lives.
What does it mean to you to be headlining with Tamia?
As an artist, it means that my brand is becoming more recognisable and trusted. To be put next to the likes of Tamia who are legends and vocally gifted means South African audiences, promoters and companies trust my brand enough. It also means my market is opening up and my opportunities are growing.
What can we expect from you in 2019?
New everything. New me, new music, new Instagram, new everything. You should just call me Lady New Zamar.
