GLAMOUR Exclusive: Meet the man behind Hollywood's first black Egyptian films

You may have heard of the feature film trilogy Protector of the Gods , showing an afro-futuristic representation, of three of Egypt’s most iconic queens. Each volume in the trilogy focuses on a different monarch, the first on Hatshepsut, the second on Nefertiti and the third on Cleopatra.

The artistic genius leading the creation of the movies is Kameko Tarnez, an American soul singer, writer, director and feature film producer. He also owns Archrok Entertainment, an established artist management and film production company, which he foundeed with a team of international investors aiming to promote growth in the arts.

Protector of the Gods, written and directed by Kameko, will feature Rhonda Ross, daughter of legendary soul songstress Diana Ross and entertainment tycoon Berry Gordy. The cast will be dressed by Costume Concept Designer Phillip Boutte Jr, known for his work on Black Panther, Maleficent and Star Wars

The story will take place in an enchanting visual effects (VFX) world, brought to life by Archrok Entertainment and award-winning VFX Director Pete Polyakov, who worked on Mad Max: Fury Road, Interstellar and Batman vs. Superman. Production of the trilogy kicked off in the States in summer 2018, and will continue in Jozi in summer 2019. The films will be coming to screens in 2020.

Acclaimed actor Hill Harper, the Co-Executive Producer, shared his thoughts on the movies by saying, “Kameko's storytelling takes you through the larger than life history of ancient Egypt from a distinctly African perspective. I think it is essential that moviegoers understand and watch historically accurate depictions of African history, from more than simply a slave narrative. Now more than ever, audiences are hungry for stories such as these told without bias.”

If you’re an aspiring actress, Protector of the Gods could be the reason you get your lucky break! Archrok Entertainment is currently on the hunt for strong actresses between the ages of 10 and 35 years, to appear in the trilogy.
