Africa’s Richest Race Day is fast approaching as fans gear-up for another memorable event. The Sun Met has become a flagship event in Cape Town, taking on the historic Kenilworth Racecourse once more on Saturday 1st February 2020. The event has been a homing beacon for creatives, innovators, and forward thinkers from African and the globe. Sun International is collaborating with Visionaries who will offer their unique interpretation on this year’s theme.
In preparation for a day at the races, here is a comprehensive guide with all the information you will need for the Sun Met 2020:
THEME AND DRESS CODE:
Each year’s theme opens a doorway for the fashion savvy to dress for the occasion. This year the Sun Met celebrates Africans who are taking on the world. “African Luxury: Visionaries” will transform Kenilworth Racecourse into Cape Town’s very own catwalk. No look is off-limits - just as long as it captures their interpretation of the theme.
FASHION SHOW AND BEST DRESSED COMPETITION:
A steady highlight of the Sun Met is the Fashion Show. Selected designers showcase show-stopping pieces in between the races at the Entertainment Marquee leading up to the Best Dressed Competition. Headlining this year’s fashion narrative is Palesa Mokubung who has paved the way for a new generation of African designers to take on the world. Mokubung has dressed some of the continent's biggest names including The Faces of Sun Met Bonang Matheba and Miss Universe 2019, Zozibini Tunzi. Joining Mokubung for the Fashion Show are Masa Mara and Imprint ZA who both capture a distinct perspective of their history and culture.
The Fashion Show will take place in the Fashion and After-Party marquee from 15h45.
The Best Dressed competition will take place at the Entertainment marquee. One lucky lady and gent stand a chance of winning a phenomenal prize package which includes:
• R5000 American Swiss voucher
• R5000 Canal Walk voucher
• R5000 Europa voucher

The competition will run from 17h30– 18h00. The panel of judges will consist of knowledgeable personalities who will lend their expertise in crowning the two winners. All ticket-holders are welcome to view and participate in the competition.
Africa Is Not A Jungle featuring Black Coffee, Themba, and Da Capo, will headline the Official After-Party. Holly Rey along with Basel Grey and Courtnaé Paul will set the stage ahead of them.
Racegoers can see this season’s top horses galloping to take the first prize this year. Forecast to join in on the festivities is South Africa’s Horse of the Year and early Sun Met 2020’s favourite, Do It Again. The Sun Met 2019 winner, Rainbow Bridge has their eye on the prize. The other big name is Johannesburg’s number one contender - Hawwaam, who wants to desperately take the Sun Met title back to Gauteng.
The Sun Met will present a special race on the day that promises excitement and laughs. Attendees should keep an eye out for the new runners on event day.
