Reasons why you need to attend The Feel Party

According to the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), over 19.4 million women in the country live at-risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer. While breast and cervical cancer are identified as a national priority, one organisation is dedicated in reversing this statistic by raising awareness around this epidemic through its annual gathering discussing breast cancer more closely.

The Feel Party is the brainchild of Think Creative Africa, a Financial Mail Adfocus Awards small agency finalist. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, The Feel Party is making a resurgence with its annual gathering; combining an array of activities such as poetry, a panel discussion consisting of health practitioners, and an interactive breast cancer self-examination demonstration. The event will also include good music and complimentary manicure treatments.

Nkgabiseng Motau, Co-Founder of Think Creative Africa says, “Oftentimes breast cancer awareness comes with a great deal of apprehension for most women but ‘The Feel Party’ aims to talk about breast cancer awareness in a way that could be understood and enjoyed.”

“There are a great number of mixed feelings associated with breast cancer along with a lot of uncertainty. This is why it’s important that women have a safe space where they have access to the support they need” she said.

Awareness around breast cancer exists, and quite substantially. However, there is a need for cultural nuance that will inspire action and influence behaviour. The reality is that women need to examine their breasts quite regularly for awareness of the symptoms and early detection. This will help a great deal in identifying risk factors that can help them to reduce their personal cancer risks.
