Alexa Chung thinks style is subjective

The fashion-forward star picked up the Style Icon trophy for the third time at the British Fashion Awards last November, but she’s now admitted to feeling uncomfortable with her hat trick win.

Speaking in a video chat with Harper’s Bazaar‘s executive editor Laura Brown, Alexa confessed, “It’s kind of the least concrete thing to assess. When someone wins [best] brand something I understand that, but style is so subjective that it’s difficult to rank people properly.”

The brunette still likes to keep her awards in her bedroom where she can see them, however, and explained, “I genuinely tripped over my style award the other day, and it made me laugh a lot. It’s on my bedroom floor.”

Alexa also revealed her career as a TV presenter was the turning point in her interest in fashion because she was given money to experiment with clothes.

She said, “I didn’t have much style until I started presenting TV. They give you a wardrobe allowance so it was the first time I had to luxury of being able to shop properly.”

The 29-year old icon isn’t afraid to mix things up when it comes to her style and thinks some of things she buys are “very weird”.

Asked what her last purchase was, she said, “It was a navy blue, suede and wool poncho.

“Very weird, I don’t quite know what I’m going to do with it. Apparently someone made it in the Amazon!”
