With models of the moments Gigi and Bella Hadid as cousins, it’s little surprise that Joann van den Herik is already killing it in the industry.
The Hadid sister’s younger cousin, who is a body positive model, has been snapped up by British high street stalwart, Debenhams, as the star of its new lingerie campaign.
The 18-year-old looks absolutely incredible in the new shoot. The best news? Not a single image was airbrushed or Photoshopped.
Blessed 🙌🏼 My body wasn’t airbrushed or photoshopped in any way!! I want to thank @thejemmitchell for taking these amazing photos, @kennethsohmakeup for the beautiful make-up, @luciadebieux for the great styling and @choccy_tv for making my hair look lovely 💇🏼♀️ and last but not least, a BIG thanks to the best agent ever @12plusuk thank you for always supporting me! Couldn’t have done it without you guys. And also thanks to all my followers for believing in me and always commenting nice and positive on my Instagram, I appreciate you guys so much ❤️ #BodyPositive #NoPhotoshop #LoveYourCurves #BeautyBeyondSize
Joann posted the striking image to her Instagram with the caption: “Blessed. My body wasn’t airbrushed or photoshopped in any way!!
“And also thanks to all my followers for believing in me and always commenting nice and positive on my Instagram, I appreciate you guys so much.”
What I love most about this picture, is that you can actually see a fatroll on the side. If you showed me this picture 1 year ago, I probably would’ve cried only about the idea of posting it. You see, this picture shows a real body. MY real body. When people lay in this position, they may have some rolls. So? Does it make us less beautiful? Does it ruin the picture? No. So why let it ruin your life? With my body and my photos I want to show you guys that it doesn’t matter what kind of body you have. EVERY BODY IS BEAUTIFUL. And everybody can wear whatever they want. Wear that tight dress, even if you have fatrolls in it. My insecurities always stopped me from wearing things I like, so please, maybe after seeing this picture, or some pictures of @iskra @sonnyturner___ @theashleygraham @barbienox , embrace your curves and don’t let your insecurities stop YOU from wearing whatever you want. You deserve to love yourself. Every ❗️Part ❗️ Of ❗️You ❗️Is❗️ Beautiful, even the ones you’re insecure about. Tell yourself you love yourself every day. Focus on the things that make you happy, make you special. The things that make you insecure? Try to look at them in a different way. For example what I’m doing in this post with my fatrolls. Ask yourself, why do I think my hips are ugly? Why don’t I like my belly? Why do I want to have thin legs? Because society and the media tells you? Don’t give them a chance to make feel negative or insecure! The most powerful weapon you have, is your mind, so try to have a positive mindset a little more every day. It’ll work wonders. 🙌🏼❤️ #LoveYourCurves #BeautyBeyondSize
Joann is leading the charge for body positivity in the industry and said while she’s always dreamed of being a model, she feared there wasn’t space in the industry for someone of her shape.
“I think it’s very important to show all the boys and girls out there that size doesn’t matter and that you’re perfect the way you are. I translate that into my work as a model and on social media,” she said.
“I’m a strong believer in body-positivity and that every body is beautiful.”
Now based in The Netherlands, Joann is fast becoming a star in her own right and uses her social media to promote body security.
You go, girl.
