Here’s a home video of Meghan Markle pretending to be Queen from 1990

Leading up to the royal wedding, which is happening May 19, Meghan Markle fever has fully settled in. People are obsessing over her outfits, her wedding invitations, and all the ways that she’s supposedly breaking royal traditions so far. (There are a lot.) Suffice it to say, we’re pretty excited ourselves—and this latest instalment of Markle magic is one of our favourites yet. On Sunday the  Daily Mail surfaced a home video, filmed in January 1990, of Markle practising for her destiny as a royal.

In the video, eight-year-old Markle can be seen with her friends in a backyard, enacting a play in which she is the queen and her friends are servants and princesses. Markle, naturally, is wearing a gold crown as she royally bosses her playmates around. Her commands include making her dresses and baking 900,000 cookies—an early attempt at royal-ing that, 18 years later, clearly shows promise. The cinematography, by the way, is courtesy of the mom of Ninaki Priddy, her best friend.

“The show was called  Your Royal Highness, and the star was Meg,” Priddy told the  Mail. “It’s very funny to see this now, and given what is going on with her life, it’s quite eye-opening. She was always the centre of attention, always the ringleader—it was my birthday, but she took the starring role!”

Of course—not to crush her childhood dreams or anything—it’s highly unlikely that Markle will one day be queen: Prince Harry will sit sixth in line for the throne once Kate Middleton and Prince William’s third child is born. But hey, if she showed this much promise at eight, it’s apparent she’s going to be a fantastic royal.
