Ella Mai has been taking over international airwaves with her hit songs 10000 Hours and Boo’d Up. The 23-year-old British native has been on the scene since 2014, but has only been receiving mainstream buzz in recent times
She’s not American. Most people think that the RnB singer-songwriter is from the US, but the half Jamaican, half Irish crooner is actually British.
She’s signed to DJ Mustard’s 10 Summers label. If you’ve never heard of DJ Mustard, he’s the producer behind hit records like Trey Songz’s Na Na and Beyonce’s 7/11 Remix.
She spent half of her childhood in Queens, New York. When she was 12, her mother abruptly moved the budding young talent, and her older brother, across the pond to Queens, New York, for a teaching job. Ella later moved back to the UK.
Boo’d Up is her first song to crack the Billboard Hot 100. She is #31 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop and #6 on the R&B Hot Singles Charts, and #62 on the Hot 100.
