Bleach your hair without breakage

The latest buzz in haircare: Olaplex.

Want to go blonde? Or bold? Or bright? Now you can without compromising on strength or shine. There’s a new salon treatment called Olaplex that women are storming to the salon to try. And stylists around the country are excited! Why? Because you can finally push your hair colour to new heights without your hair looking – and feeling – like straw. This treatment is perfect for anyone lightening their hair with bleach (a step that’s important before you go blue, pink or purple or even simply have highlights).

Olaplex is three step treatment that’s added to your hair bleach or used as a treatment after bleaching. The secret ingredients? Bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate and 4-BBA-propyl-PDMS. Yes, it’s a mouthful, but it’s this ingredient that promises to heal previously damaged hair from bleaching and over processing.

So how does it work? Your hair is made up keratin and amino acids called cysteine which contains sulphur. When grouped together, it forms disulphide bonds which give our hair strands shape and movement. Over time, mechanical, environmental and chemical damage can cause these bonds to break down and weaken the hair. This is what leads to breakage during chemical processes or excessive heat styling.

Olaplaex helps to create an artificial bridge between disulphide bonds to maintain its strength in the same way that cement would do when you are building a wall. The colour acts as a catalyst for the product to travel through the hair strands. Oxygen activates the hydrogen and sulphur bonds in your hair and with the combination of tint and peroxide. Science parts aside, it means strong, glossy results on you! And, it’s great on all hair types.

The next step? Ask for Olaplex when you next go into the salon for a colour and see the results for yourself. Costs vary from salon to salon. For more info visit  olaplexsa.co.za.
