Lana Del Rey has called time on her relationship with Barrie-James O’Neill because she wanted time apart to be “free”.
Speaking in an interview with Switzerland’s 20 Minuten newspaper, she said: “We are currently not together. He is a wonderful person. But there are some things with which he has to deal. I will not explain it in detail. This was hard on our relationship, I no longer felt free. We’ll see how it goes.”
Despite recently ending her relationship with Barrie, the 28-year-old singer admits she hasn’t ruled out settling down with someone in the future and having children with them. When asked if she would like to get married at some point, Lana replied “I’d love to. And I would like to have children. Hopefully it will work out sometime.”
Meanwhile, Lana and Barrie sparked rumours they’d got engaged last July when the brunette beauty was spotted sporting a diamond sparkler on her ring finger while house-hunting in Los Angeles. In an interview two years ago, Lana said her song “Off to the Races” had been inspired by the Scottish singer.
She said: “When I found somebody who I fell in love with, it made me feel different than I felt the rest of the day. It was electrifying. That’s what inspired the “Off to the Races” melodies. That’s one of the times when you’re feeling electrified by someone else and they make you happy to be alive.”
Barrie also appeared alongside Lana as her love interest in the video for her track “Summer Wine” in April 2013.
