The DIY granola recipe you need to try

What could be better than a delicious (and healthy) bowl of warm granola on a cold winter morning? Packed with oats and seeds it’s one of those awesome, good for you foods, that you can tweak to suit your taste. It’s also one of those things that when you start making it yourself you wonder why you ever bought the pre-made version.

OAT, SEED AND CINNAMON GRANOLA

(Makes 1 large container)

Ingredients

- 2 1/2 cups of oats

- 1/2 cup of flax seeds

- 1 cup of pumpkin seeds

- 1 cup of sunflower seeds

- 1 cup of copped dates

- 3 tbsp of coconut oil

- 3 tbsp of honey

- 3 tsp of cinnamon

Method

Place all the dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl, except the raisins and cinnamon, and stir together.

Next, melt the coconut oil with the honey and cinnamon on the stove, once it has dissolved into a sweet liquid add it to the dry bowl and mix well (the mixture should be slightly sticky).

Place the mixture into a baking tray and bake for about 30-40 minutes at 180C, until crunchy. During this time you’ll need to stir the mixture to ensure that every bit of the granola gets nicely toasted and the top doesn’t burn.

Once the granola is cooked perfectly remove the tray from the oven and allow it to cool, then stir in the chopped dates.

To serve, simply add almond milk and a few mixed berries.
