HUAWEI MateBook X Pro 2021 Review

Premium, Sleek, Trendy – “Defo” suitable for the Glamour lady

The HUAWEI MateBook X Pro 2021 is the latest Huawei laptop to land on South African shores, promising a premium experience in a lightweight form factor and now available in the Glamourous Emerald Green colour.

But does the device live up to the expectations especially at the price range above R30,000? We spent two weeks with the laptop to see how it performs in daily usage…

Lightweight and professional design

The HUAWEI MateBook X Pro definitely ups the stakes when it comes to a premium design and feel. The laptop manages to be both sturdy and lightweight, with a sleek metallic body that has a sandblast finish.

At only 14.6mm thick and weighing 1.33kg, it’s difficult to overstate how easily portable the laptop is.

It’s not so small that it becomes difficult to use, however, finding the perfect balance between portability and productivity.

Display clarity and adaptability

While the Matebook X Pro has a relatively small 13.9-inch display, the slim borders and 91% screen-to-body ratio mean that it feels more than generous when working on or viewing media on the device.

With 3:2 display featuring a 3K LTPS touchscreen display with resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixels, which is more ideal for users that rely on their notebooks for productivity, allowing apps in the Microsoft Office suite as well as other productivity tools to show more content.

The fact that the display is also touchscreen adds an extra bit of productivity and usability to the device. You can swipe down with three fingers to take a screenshot.

But more often than not, the most useful function brought about by the touchscreen is the ability to easily scroll through web pages or documents and tap on elements or buttons on the screen.

HUAWEI MateBook X Pro battery life like no other

Another standout feature of the MateBook X Pro is its battery life, delivering the longest time between charges out of any of the MateBooks launched in South Africa this year.

HUAWEI MateBook X Pro 2021 features a 56Wh battery. Users can also watch videos on their devices for up to 13 hours, work regularly for 15 hours or browse webpages for 11 hours. The 65W USB-C pocket charger not only provides fast charging for HUAWEI MateBooks, but also supports HUAWEI SuperCharge for HUAWEI phones and tablets, so you can use it for multiple purposes.

Fingerprint reader - love it

All the MateBooks have a fingerprint reader on the power button, but this feature works particularly well on the MateBook X Pro thanks to its fast processing power. It takes about a second for the laptop to scan and approve your fingerprint for logging in.
