The year is 1967 and a group of New Zealand students – including Race, Candy, Chadwick, FitzGerald and the mysterious and strange Morgan Tawhai – are about to join a protest against the war in Vietnam. More than 30 years later in 2001, Morgan is dead and yet Candy, Race and FitzGerald still have questions for their eccentric friend. While Race wonders about Morgan and how things would have been had Morgan not been killed in an accident, his son Toby questions his own relationships with his friends and his girlfriend under a shower of meteors.
The story continues to shift between time and place, offering glimpses into various eras through the eyes of characters, like Race and Toby, who are battling their own personal dramas against the backdrop of war and terrorism. A subtle, off-beat meditation on time and history and how both these intertwined elements affect us, prepare for a deep read that will provoke a meditation of your own.
