Ready to spring clean for the new year? Here's some organisations you can donate to

The new year is almost upon us and with it comes a sense of renewal. It’s the perfect time to reflect on what you want to bring into the new year and what you’d like to get rid of. The summer season also means having a home full of guests or visitors and once it’s over, it can be the ideal space to sift through your things. If you’ve been itching to declutter your home and wardrobe, we’ve compiled some organisations to donate to.

Saartjie Baartman Centre

Located in Manenberg and providing essential services for women and children, Saartjie Baartman Centre is always in need of donations. You can donate your unwanted goods, from small appliances to furniture and clothes. You can have a look on their official website to see what they might need and if there is anything you might want to donate too.

H&M

Established in 2013, the H&M recycling program encourages consumers to bring in their old clothing items in exchange for discount vouchers. The aim of the Garment Collection program is to add a sustainable approach to the way you donate your clothes and is one of the biggest clothing recycling initiatives in the world. You can enquire about the program at your closest H&M branch and bring along your items to donate.

SPCA

The largest animal welfare organisation in South Africa, there are branches in all nine provinces in the country. While the organisation focuses on providing exceptional care to wildlife, livestock and animals nationwide, they are always in need of donations. You can decide to send along some pet food, unwanted toys or blankets. Have a look at your closest branch and see what they might need while you’re clearing out.

HospiceWits

Based in Johannesburg and providing palliative care to patients, HospiceWits relies on donor support to keep going. You can donate money or your pre-loved items to their hospice shop, which they sell for additional revenue. If you have larger big ticket items like appliances and the like - they have drivers who are able to do collections. Get in contact via the official website for more information.
