GLAM Chat: Cassper Nyovest

2014 has no doubt been the year of Cassper Nyovest. With his amazing videos, fresh sound and energetic performances, he’s proven to be a force to be reckoned with. GLAMOUR recently caught up with to ask him how he feels about the reception to his recently certified-gold album, Tsholofelo, how his collaboration with Talib Kweli came about and what’s in store for him this festive season.

You can catch Cassper, along with AKA, Khuli Chana, Reason, Skwatta Kamp and more, performing at Maftown Heights in Newton Park, Joburg on 28 November!

GLAMOUR: Your album

Cassper: People like the songs I like. Usually people’s favourite song aren’t the personal ones.

GLAMOUR:

Cassper: We were in Soweto to show him around as organised by Okayplayer. Fortunately, there were a lot of school kids on school trips to see all the historic places around Vilakazi Street. They all recognised me and started screaming and singing “Doc Shebeleza”. He took notice and asked me about it – that’s when I asked him to jump on it and he did.

GLAMOUR:

Cassper: Kanye West, Wizkid and Drake.

GLAMOUR:

Cassper:

I watch a lot of thug related music videos from all over the world, so I just made a South African narration of them.

GLAMOUR:

Cassper: I’ve got my birthday bash in Mafikeng on 13 December, which is my main show, plus close to 40 other shows. It’s going to be a blessed December for me, so I’m grateful.
