The strangest beauty trends to ever hit the internet

Beauty trendsEndless selfies, food porn and bikini photos are just some of the delights we now see regularly thanks to Instagram. The latest insta-category to give thanks for? Weird (I repeat, WEIRD) beauty trends.

At first, it was contouring, which actually became something that normalised itself. Then there was the ill-fated #kyliejennerlipchallenge (still loling at that one), furry nails (ew!), crystal lips (totally impractical) and the list goes on. Ah the internet – it’s just a gift that keeps on giving, ain’t it?

Fortunately for us, nothing has changed this year ’round – the trends are just as unusual, captivating and yes, slightly frightening. So have a look and ask yourself – are you game for this glam?

Fishtail Brows
Well, well, well… what do we have here. The newest trend to take over our feeds in 2018, is a very edgy one – and for once it can actually be easily achieved (not that we would go ahead and try it, but ya know, we’re here to report). Fishtail brows consist of concealing a part of your eyebrow and creating an angled ‘tail’ in a different direction, the results look like – you guessed it – a fish’s tail. TAH-DAH!

The creator of the trend was MUA Stefan from @skyzeditz, but makeup authority, Huda Kattan, tried to recreate the look. And if Huda has okayed it, you know it could become a trend – but let’s hope it doesn’t…

Tinsel Eyelashes
Christmas is just around the corner, so it’s about time we saw some festively-weird beauty trends. Let us introduce you to tinsel eyelashes, an idea by Instagrammer @coolgirlswearmugler, which, to be fair, is not as weird as it is super pretty. And if you think about it, could be really easy to recreate – you’d just need some falsies’ glue and leftover décor from your Christmas tree and voilá!

Calling all QUEENS! This beauty trend is for you. It’s not the easiest of looks, but once you’ve mastered it, you’ll be all set. The brow crown is the creation of Sofie Petersen – an Instagrammer who’s not afraid to go bold

Nose Hair Extensions
Nose hair extensions? Can we just stop now? This is absolute madness and somehow it found its way onto our feeds. Why? We really don’t know but after penis eyebrows became a thing (scroll down, if you will) we stopped looking for meaning in these. The trend, which consists of adding fake eyelashes to your nostrils, started with user @gret_chen_chen is now spreading through Instagram.

Ponytail Eyebrows
Yes, you’ve read that right. The latest Insta trend is something of an unfortunate breeding. Mary Jane, the talented makeup artist behind the photoshopped image says the edit is ironic, and she’s just “getting tired of edited brows getting recognition”. Well doll, unfortunately now this one is also trending.

McDonalds Eyebrows
Beauty lovers across the internet are showing their appreciation for the American fast food chain in a very original way. Huda Beauty’s McDonald’s eyebrows have taken ‘I’m lovin’ in’ to the next level to VERY mixed reactions.

Feather Eyebrows
Normally we absolutely champion an eyebrow moment and a centre parting whenever we can, but combined into one? This trend is definitely one for the brave…

Penis Eyebrows
Feather eyebrows not ‘out there’ enough for you? What about penis brows? It’s official: Instagram beauty trends have gone mad.

Holographic Hair
This is one way to get noticed when walking into a room and Instagram gold (or should we say, silver?).

Floral Eyeliner
It is always lovely when makeup artistry is taken to another level, which is shown beautifully with this painterly trend. Got a steady hand and a good eye? Give it a go and let those double-taps roll in.

Candy Floss Hair
A sweet trend, you’ll nevertheless look like a COS-play dress up of My Little Pony.

Unicorn Nails
We all love Unicorns, so getting behind this trend was not difficult – I mean, just look at those colours.

Corset Braids
Totally in love with this cool-girl hair, which is the perfect mix of young and sophisticated.

Braided partings make me wannaaa 🙆 Create a corset braid by simply criss-crossing any string in between 2 corn rows as if tying a shoe lace. If the string is thick, you can easily weave it through the corn rows. For finer strings, tie each end to a bobby pin and use the pin to push the string through the braid! I’ve done this in the past with wider triangle cornrows into a topknot using gold string… if you scroll down you can 👀! . @salontocci Makeup- @jasminelakhesar Inspired by @esthersbraids . ♥Lashes: @hudabeauty @shophudabeauty Lashes in “Jade” ♥Eyes: #hudabeautyrosegoldpalette in “Bae and Suede” + #urbandecay the Nskef Palette 2 ♥Blush: @morphebrushes 9N Blush Palette ♥Highlight and inner corner of the eyes: @anastasiabeverlyhills #Glowkit ♥Lips: @thekatvond in “Witches” ♥Foundation: #Toofaced “Born this Way” liquid foundation in “Golden” ♥Eyeliner: @inglot_cosmetics in 77 ♥Brows: @benefitcosmetics #kabrow in number 4 ♥Contour: @lagirlcosmetics in “Ivory +Creamy beige + Beautiful bronze + @nyxcosmetics Contour Palette . Glitter Boobs
Ever heard that subtlety is sexy? Neither have these guys…but hey, it works; they certainly have our attention! Coachella looks 2018?

Barbed Eyebrows
We’ve all seen a sharp brow, but sharp from four different angles? That’s a first (and hopefully a last).

Geode Hair
Inspired by the rich colours in geode crystals, the deep jewel tones are a welcomed change from the mermaid or rainbow hair trend we’ve seen.

The Glitter Booty
This is not a trend for the modest or faint of heart – but if you can pull it off (and with Coachella around the corner, the time is now) then all power to you.

Christmas Tree Brows
For the truly festive among us who feel that a novelty Christmas jumper is just too tame, Vlogerr Taylor created this look by feathering our the hairs and adding gems. Ending the year as strange as it started…
