This is the engagement ring style making a splash this year

If you’re dropping hints to your partner to propose this year, and have been pinning over some pretty  engagement rings  on Pinterest, you probably came across a crazy variety of styles. From different cuts, colours and brilliance, it can get  really overwhelming,  really fast.

But worry not! If you’re one to follow style trends, we’re glad to inform you that one particular type of ring is making the rounds on Pinterest as the most pinned and most saved. Meaning it will be THE style to choose if you’re getting engaged anytime soon.

Everyone, let us introduce you to moissanite…

Photography: PinterestNot really sure what that is? Well, it’s probably time you do, future bride-to-be, because the search for moissanite has been up 294% over the past year on Pinterest.

Moissanite is a gemstone, first discovered in 1893 by a French scientist named Henri Moissan. When Henri first spotted the stone in a crater created by a meteorite that fell to Earth, he thought he had found diamonds.

With a similar brilliance and look to diamonds, natural moissanite is incredibly rare, so the gemstones available today are laboratory-created. The benefit of getting a moissanite gemstone over a diamond is that, first of all, they are much cheaper, but they are also considered eco-friendly and very durable, perfect for everyday wear.

Also on Pinterest’s list? Art deco rings and oval shaped rings. The old school type of design saw a 173% increase in search over the past year, while oval shapes saw a 125% increase.

So get an oval-shaped moissanite, with art deco design details, and you’ll be the trendiest bride on the block.
