Your style guide to the Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo

Currently, in its eighth year, the polo and social event of the year celebrates the sport of kings, polo, and one of the world’s most unrivalled champagnes, Veuve Clicquot. Set to return to Val de Vie Estate in the picturesque Franschhoek Valley next Saturday the 3rd of March, the 2018 Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo allows guests to witness international polo players compete for the coveted Veuve Clicquot Masters Polo Cup.

But the polo matches are not the only excitement on show during the polo.

The event has become synonymous with high-end yet chic fashion from both celebrities and other attendees. The theme for 2018, ‘Cape Town Summer’ promises to immerse guests into the famed Cape Town summer feeling of clear blue skies and endless summer afternoons envied by so many. This feeling, together with the spectacular fashion, hospitality, fast-paced polo and of course Veuve Clicquot, promises to make for a supreme afternoon, at one of the world’s most prestigious equestrian estates.

But how does one dress for a “Cape Town Summer” themed event?

According to event co-organiser Anina Malherbe-Lan, “We always try and inspire people to embrace ‘polo fashion’ which is generally focusing less on looking ‘glamorous’ and more on ‘daytime chic’.”

Explaining what ‘daytime chic means, for both men and women, Malherbe-Lan continues, “For the ladies, this means soft flowy dresses and jumpsuits. For the gentleman, ‘daytime chic’ calls for summer suits in light summer fabrics. For the colour palette, both men and women should look towards light pastels, brights or florals.”
