Lala Akindoju gets ready with Glamour SA at #AMVCA2018
Kemi “ Lala” Akindoju is a Nigerian actress best known for her role in the film adaptation of Dazzling Mirage, for which she took home an Africa Magic trailblazer award.
The beautiful star invited us behind the scenes, as she got ready to attend the annual Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, which took place on September 1st 2018.
GLAMOUR: Can you give us the low down on your pre-red carpet rituals?
Lala Akindoju: I call everyone in my glam squad up to triple check that they’re on their way. Make sure my skin is pre-prepped, grab a bite before the event, and do a quick breath check [laughs]. Bad breath on the red carpet is a huge no-no for me!
G: What’s your first fashion memory?
LA: I think I had just turned 8 and I told my mum I didn’t want to wear socks and dresses with belts anymore. She took me to shop at a top boutique in Lagos (Collectibles)… that’s when I first fell in love with fashion and started wearing ‘adult’ clothes.
G: Who are your favourite style icons?
LA: Too many to name, really, but off the top of my head…Solange. I love how she makes every look a major fashion moment. Lisa Folawiyo because she is the queen of clashing prints and I really enjoy how she is pushing the culture forward with her looks – mixing high end and high street; luxury, contemporary Nigerian and international designers. It’s genius, to be honest.
G: What are some of the biggest misconceptions about fashion and beauty today?
LA:1. That if you enjoy fashion and makeup and looking good it somehow makes you frivolous or flighty. No, it just means you are multi-faceted and have diverse interests. Women can be both.
2. Your body must be a certain way to be stylish. Human beings are so diverse and style comes in every shape, size, colour and age.
