Parisian perfumer Viktoria Minya, tells us why we all want to smell like the the world’s most romantic flower: the rose.
Why is Rose so special?
Rose oil is considered the queen of all raw materials by us, perfumers! First of all as it is and will always be an eternal symbol of passion and love. Secondly, it is very expensive: 1 kg of a good quality Rose oil is close to 5000 EUR ( ca. 70 000 South African Rand ) and at last, but not least it has proven enchanting and captivating aromatic properties.
Why is it so popular with perfumers?
All perfumers love to work with noble and prestigious raw materials, so Rose oil is a dream for us – it is very challenging though, as in its pure form it is often opulent and heavy, so we usually make it softer, sometimes more powdery, sometimes more fruity. Every nose has their own interpretation of a perfect rose!
Why is it so popular with women?
Rose is a universally appreciated scent, and although its perception varies from one culture to the other, it is always associated with pleasant feelings. In the occidental culture, it is linked to seduction while in the middle east rose oil is often used in desserts; ice cream and candy (which is why in this region it is considered a gourmand note).
Why are rose fragrances modern again?
Rose scented perfumes made their comeback in the last few years, mostly, because the prevailing fashion trend “retro” made its way to perfumery as well, and also, because it continues to enchant our noses again and again.
