Celebs’ favourite denims are making a difference

Denim is pretty much our favourite invention ever, so when we heard that Edgars is taking this staple to a whole new level we were pretty excited.

Edgars has teamed up with the acclaimed South African designer, Craig Jacobs, to collaborate on an innovative, charity-driven project. The Pieces of Me campaign is fronted by six South African celebrities: Luthando Shosha, Janez Vermeiren, Aspasia Karras, Poppy Ntshongwana, Jessica Nkosi and Jimmy Nevis.

These celebs all handed over their favourite pair of jeans to Edgars, which were then used to create something truly beautiful. A piece of each celebs’ denims contributed to a one-of-a-kind denim garment created by Craig Jacobs. This stylish patchwork dress will be publicly auctioned on Twitter on the 27th and 28th August 2105 using the hashtag  #EdgarsPieceOfMe. All of the proceeds from the sale of the dress will be received by  The SOS Children’s Villages South Africa.

The opening bid will be shared on Twitter, and Edgars has invited anyone who would like to be involved in this fantastic project to make their bid and be a part of the fun! Make sure you pre-register as a bidder by filling in your deets here. Tune in to Twitter to see this social media auction unfold and make your bid to help The SOS Children’s Villages South Africa.  You never know, you could end up winning the bid in the first ever celebrity denim Twitter auction in South Africa!

The six celebs have not only donated their denims, they have also shared a piece of themselves by offering an exclusive personal denim story to the project. These never before shared stories are intended to raise the awareness of the Piece of Me project, and can be read on the official Piece of Me site.

We’ve chosen two of the stories to share with you below, but be sure to check out the rest!

Poppy Ntshongwana:

“My jeans mark a very special time in my life. I bought them with my very first pay cheque. What separates these jeans from the rest is that I bought them myself and that makes me proud. One specific occasion I remember wearing the jeans was to a Robbie Williams concert when I had just started working at 5FM. I got to see one of the biggest pop stars in the world perform live in concert and the fact that I could wear my favourite jeans made the whole experience that much better. I have worn these jeans season in and out – they have stood the test of time and been my go-to pair of jeans. Ten years on the jeans still look amazing!”

Jessica Nkosi:

“These jeans have been my favourite pair for as long as I can remember. As a student, I wore them almost everyday on campus. I have always loved beautiful things and as my mom could not afford to give me money to shop, I had to work every weekend so I could buy whatever I liked.  I think I love this pair of jeans that much more because they were one of my first purchases with my hard-earned money. Years later, I wore my jeans for my first Isibaya audition. Little did I know this would be a breakthrough day in my career – I actually ended up wearing them on my first day of shooting. The more I think about it, I see that there’s a greater story behind these jeans. It’s quite amazing that I still wear and love them today. They still fit. I think they are my lucky jeans.”
