Charlize Theron fights for fairness

It’s the 21st Century and still we find that women are being undervalued in the workplace. Charlize Theron took a stand.

Initially set to be paid less than her co-star, Chris Hemsworth for appearing in The Huntsman, which is due out in 2016, she negotiated and will now get more than $10 million for her appearance.

An insider explained: “Charlize insisted that she get paid the same money as Chris. She has a great track record, so she got the same deal.”

Another source told the New York Post’s Page Six column: “One knock-on effect from the Sony hacking scandal is that there will be more sensitivity about equal pay for actresses and hiring practices at movie studios.”

The Huntsman is a prequel to the 2012 hit film Snow White and the Huntsman, which also starred Twilight lead, Kristen Stewart.

Meanwhile, Aaron Sorkin claimed that recently women’s on-screen roles have a lower “degree of difficulty” than men’s.

The producer said that Meryl Streep and Dame Helen Mirren are two of the only female stars who can hold their own among the top male actors.

His words: “Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep can play with the boys but there just aren’t that many tour-de-force roles out there for women.”

His opinion is sure to get a few ladies fired up. Well done to Charlize for holding her own and showing Hollywood the fun fearless females South Africa has to offer.
