A series of photographs seen through the lens of the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro

With advancements in technology, mobile cameras have become more sophisticated and now offer features and capabilities that rival those of standalone digital cameras. An increase in resolution with over 100 million pixels allows users to capture incredibly detailed photos that make it possible to crop and zoom in on a subject, without losing quality. While the addition of multiple cameras on a single high-end smartphone facilitates distinct focal length and lens type. This has certainly improved low-light performance and provides more accurate depth perception in photographs.

Modern smartphones also benefit from developments in image processing algorithms and use machine learning to improve colour accuracy, reduce noise and add effects.

Such a smartphone that magnifies all these futuristic features, is the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro which brings a superior photography experience. As HUAWEI's first product under its newly launched imaging brand, XMAGE, the camera system with Ultra Aperture allows users to adjust the physical aperture between ten levels. The XMAGE provides a unique mobile imaging technology system in three dimensions: optical system, imaging technology, and image processing. The result is a camera system that is truly versatile.

The HUAWEI Mate50 Pro’s primary camera works in tandem with portrait segmentation computing capabilities to apply optical-level background blurring. Compared to other cameras that rely solely on algorithmic blurring, the camera effect on the HUAWEI Mate50 pro looks more natural. The subject taken stands out more from its surroundings, with smooth skin and a natural skin tone.

Expressing his thoughts on the design and image quality of the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro, Kgomotso says: “As a photographer, the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro feels like having a quick point and shoot camera in my pocket. I capture a lot of content on the street and don’t need a camera that may be intimidating to people. The smartphone is beautifully designed, and the camera works well in terms of being discreet.”

“One of the things that impressed me was the zoom function of the camera, I’ve never seen anything like it, it’s able to zoom at the furthest objects, without pixilating,” he adds.

The photographer asserts that the smartphone is suited for non-professional photographers as it’s easy to use, and for professional photographers as it enables them to shoot on manual.

With a stunning design, powerful performance, imaging technology and smart interactions, the HUAWEI Mate 50 Pro is a fitting tribute to a decade of the Mate Series evolution.
