Where to get a tattoo? Here are the prettiest placement ideas

And all the inspo you need.

The only rule is, there are no rules. Now that tattoos are getting more intricate and smaller, there seems to be no limits to where you can get a bit of ink. Alongside classic spots like arms and ankles, dainty designs are popping up inside ears, in between fingers and tucked beneath our hairline.

As well as statement tatts that demand attention, we're finding surprising and intimate spots that allow others to see a flash of our inkings as we reach for a drink or turn our head without being too obvious. Plus, they're easy to cover up if need be.

Celebs are leading the way, of course, with some pretty unusual placement of their own. Close pals Kaia Gerber and Cara Delevigne recently debuted matching inkings of the word "Solemate" etched over the arch of their feet, Hailey Bieber tapped up artist Dr Woo for a subtle inscription of the word "lover" written in fine print on her neck, Kendall Jenner revealed a "Meow" tattoo done on the inside of her lip while on the Ellen Degeneres show and Ariana has added to her collection of teensy tatts with bigger, statement butterflies running from her shoulder, down her arm.

While tattoo parlours are shut until 2nd December, at least you have plenty of time to choose your tattoo design. Then all you need to do is check out all the inspo below to figure out where to have it. And, to ensure it looks as good as possible, make sure you read up on tattoo aftercare.

Here's a round up of some pretty sweet places to pick from...

Top of the armA statement position if you're wearing a strappy top but easy to cover up with a T-shirt.
Inside the earIt may not be the most pain-free place to get a tattoo, but it can look really effective.
Along the shoulder boneAn area that can look statement in a strappy or off-the-shoulder cut, but just as easily covered with sleeves.
Back of the armBetter suited to larger tattoos, the back of your arm is an ideal spot for something statement.
The neckWe love the placement of this, and the way it can peeps out from behind your hair. Just be aware if you have shorter hair, or your hair up, it's not the easiest to hide (unless you pull out the rollnecks from your wardrobe).
Edge of your handThe ideal place to stick a design you want everyone to see.
The side of your ribsIt's easy to hide but super delicate and pretty.
The fingertipHow adorable is this idea? Obviously only certain designs would work here, but we're still a big fan.
The foot...or the ankle, each are incredibly cute and discreet.
The upper backThinner, longer tattoos look lovely on the upper back, down the spine.
The upper thighAnother great place to keep things hidden, and quotes look great here.
In-between the fingersLittle symbols such as this one perfectly fit on the fingers.
Behind the earOne of the most lovely, delicate places to have your new design. This is where Ariana Grande's Manchester tribute tat sits.
The wristA classic favourite, especially for little daily reminders and pick-me-up symbols.
On your bicepA place of strength. Quotes and symbols look especially brilliant here.
The ribcageIf you're really trying to keep your inking on the DL, the ribcage is a great option.
The crook of your armDinky and delicate.
