4 Easy steps to prep your skin before applying make-up

For most women, applying makeup is the best part of their morning routine. But unfortunately applying makeup to skin that hasn’t been prepped can end in disaster. Just like for any school exam or job interview, you need to prepare first. Skipping prep for your skin could lead to patchy looking makeup, makeup that won’t last all day or worse – blemishes! So we’ve simplified it for you in four easy steps to have your skin glowing and ready for makeup with products from How Do I Look? SA sponsors L’Oréal Paris.

1. Mask it up!

Regardless of your skin type L’Oréal has the perfect clay mask to assist your skin in looking and feeling amazing before applying your makeup. Pure Clay Mask + Red Algae can help refine and gently exfoliate dry skin while Pure Clay Mask + Charcoal can detoxify pores and Pure Clay Mask + Eucalyptus can mattify excess shine.

2.Cleanse, cleanse and cleanse

Cleansing your skin should be the most important step in prepping your skin before makeup application. The reason for this is it removes all excess dirt, oil and any old makeup.  L’Oréal offers two great options – a gentle cleanser or if you’re pressed for time they have a wide range of micellar water variants too.

3.Toner

Immediately after cleansing your skin, you should follow with a toner. Toners help remove any leftover facial cleanser, and any other impurities. This will leave your skin feeling refreshed and soft. Using a cotton pad, sweep some of L’Oréal’s HydraFresh Toner over your skin for maximum effect.

4.Hydrate… or else!

No one enjoys dry flaky skin so moisturizing should be a non-negotiable part of prepping your skin for makeup. So as soon as your skin is toned, hydrate it with a soothing moisturizer. L’Oréal has created the perfect range of moisturizers formulated with hyaluronic acid and aloe vera water to help provide long-lasting hydration.
