Real talk: only 39% of women regularly orgasm during sex, compared to 91% of men – here's how to change that

Tackling the 'gender pleasure gap'.

The gender pleasure gap is, sadly, a very real thing. The disparity between men and women in terms of sexual satisfaction is nothing new, yet it's something hardly anyone talks about – because #patriarchy.

That's why, back in October, an educational video series launched in UK, focusing on female pleasure and breaking down taboos to achieve pleasure equality for all, given that only 39% of women regularly orgasm during sex, compared to 91% of men (yep, you read that right). Climax collates research, studies and expert insight from around the world to deliver a sex-ed series that concentrates on female pleasure, with 'techniques and practices proven to work'.

Basically, the guys at Climax are here to make sure we get ours, and we ain't mad about it.

Season 1 purposely focuses on clitoral stimulation as research from the largest study on female sexuality shows that 98.5% of women who masturbate stimulate their clitoral area.

Usually, you have to pay for such sexual wisdom – there are three video packages (available on climax.how) on offer with up to 32 episodes designed for either solo-learning or couples – but the guys at Climax have shared the top three tips garnered through their extensive research.

So, whether you want some masturbation tips or need to bookmark this page and wave it under the nose of a sexual partner who isn't, err, 'bringing the goods', these are the top three external/ vulva masturbation techniques most commonly practiced by women in Climax's research…

1 The most practiced technique is called "Exploring the clitoral hood" – stimulating the clitoris by touching it through the clitoral hood. The skin of the hood itself acts as a layer to both protect the clitoris and also provide the friction which assists arousal. One in two vulva-havers regularly practice this technique, and it can be adapted to all stages of arousal.

2 The second is called "Circling". The most sensitive point is not always in the centre, and obviously varies from one woman to another. Very often this point moves as you touch yourself, or it can change depending on the day, your mood, or your menstrual cycles. The 'Climax study' (2019) revealed that 25% of women feel more pleasure when they stimulate one side of their clitoris, for example by stroking only on the left or right of it.

3 The third technique is called "Humping on your belly" – rubbing your vulva against the mattress, face down. The Climax 2019 study reveals that 13% of women practice the 'hands-free' technique lying on their stomach.
