2 Good reasons to use moisturiser

We might be guilty of skipping our serum or toner from time to time, but as time-consuming as it may be, moisturiser is the one step in our daily skin-care routines we’re religious about. Here are two major reasons why you should never skimp on moisturiser.

1 Drinking water won’t plump up your skin

“The water you drink is completely different to the water your skin needs,” says Menas Kizoulis, manager of scientific affairs on the global beauty research and development team of Neutrogena. “Drinking those eight glasses of water a day will benefit your body, but it won’t affect your skin. A moisturiser will! It adds plumpness and protection.”

2 Your skin changes throughout the day

“The majority of your skin’s cellular activity happens at night, which is when you lose the most water,” explains Menas. Plus your skin changes throughout the day. “The top layer is as thin as a piece of paper and its moisture levels are affected by sun damage, incorrect use of skincare products, the climate, your age, genetics and other aggressors. Your skin is smart, but it needs help and regular moisturising will help to improve your skin’s natural processes and stop water from evaporating. The result? A plumped up appearance.” We love Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Oil-free Moisturiser (R94,95).
