The grown-up’s guide to wearing glitter

Wondering if sparkle is only for school children? Think again. It’s a big DO! We’ve got proof that glitter is a trend for everyone! The runways were full of great ideas. Just look at these shimmering ideas seen on the catwalks this year:

The show: Atelier Versace

The look: Lip shine

When your lips pop, keep the rest of your face nearly bare. Line your lips with a red lip-liner like Revlon Colorstay Lipliner in Red (R179). Apply red cream lipstick straight from the tube. We like Bobbi Brown Luxe Lip Color in Parisian Red (R420). Then take a tight-bristle makeup brush and dip it into edible glitter (you’ll find at baking stores). Tap the glitter onto your lips, starting in the middle of your bottom lip, working towards the corners. Repeat on your upper lip. It should easily stick to your cream lipstick.

The show: Elisabetta Franchi

The look: Eye sparkle

The easiest way to make glitter look chic is by adding it to your eyes. The simplest application? A swipe of glitter liquid eyeliner. We like Palladio Line Out Loud Intense Shimmer Liquid Liner in Sparkler (R89.95). Sweep a thin line across your upper lash line and apply two to three coats of mascara for impact.

The show: Kim Shui

The look: Glossy nails

If glitter accents on your face is a little too daring for you, sparkly nails are an easy way in. Simply apply two coats of silver or gold nail polish or go for a glittery top coat over your favourite colour. We like Essence Effect Nail Polish in Icy Fairy (R38.95).
