Baby bangs are back thanks to Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa and Megan Fox – here's how to pull off the look

You don't even have to commit…

There's a new cool-girl cut in town and a handful of our favourite celebs are already leading the way. The chop in question? The micro fringe, or “baby bangs”.

First, we spotted Dua Lipa slaying waist-length strands in one of this season's biggest hair colour's, fiery copper, finished off with the brow-bearing fringe for her new campaign with Versace.

Then, we noticed Bridgerton's Phoebe Dynevor giving us prim punk vibes with a meticulously blunt ice-blonde square micro bob, complete with a slick nano fringe for a shoot with Vanity Fair.

Next, Megan Fox gave us served up a Girl With The Dragon Tattoo micro fringe for her first appearance at the Met Gala. Styled super straight and ultra silky, with a derriere-grazing XXL plait.

This week, Lady Gaga gave the cut her own spin, with another nod to Audrey Hepburn (after her Holly Golightly-inspired get-up at 2019's Oscars). She paired a one inch, uber dinky, choppy fringe with a piled-high updo.

And yesterday, Bella Hadid shared an edgy dip-dyed brunette and yellow-blonde bob complete with sharp, thin brows and a faux eyebrow ring.

Admittedly, it's not a cut for the faint of heart, but if you're in the mood for a renegade chop, baby bangs add interest, open up the face more than other fringes and add definition to cheekbones. They're delicate and cute, but fierce and bold – which is a combo we can't get enough of.

James Pryce, master hairstylist at Josh Wood believes short fringes are the perfect look for the cool girl with confidence this season. 'Short fringes definitely shout confidence. They’re the rebel of the fringe world and are not for the faint-hearted,' he told GLAMOUR.

James reckons they work particularly well on a heart shape face, but since they can be worn choppy, separated, or super sleek, there's a way to make them work for everyone. 'Personally, I prefer them quite textured rather than blunt,' he says.

And, if you're not quite ready to get your scissors out yet, you're in luck. We're fairly sure that the celebs above eased themselves into the trend with a faux version first. Dua, Phoebe and Bella all appear to be rocking wigs. Likewise, we suspect Megan's cute fringe is a clip in. And, if you look close, we reckon the ends of Gaga's hair have been fashioned into the micro fringe you see peeping out from beneath her bun.

So, if you fancy a radical hair refresh with – or without – the commitment, baby bangs 100% gets our vote.
