DOs and DON’Ts of dark circles

Lotions and potions do take time, so until then, here’s how to conceal those dark eyes like a pro. See you later, panda eyes!

DO Apply foundation first to prevent a caked look. “Skip concealers that are too dry,” says makeup pro Daleen Stewart. “They cake around the tear duct. Heavy application around the eyes ages by emphasising lines. Rather build up light layers.”

DON’T use a blemish concealer – it’ll look too dark. A yellow-toned concealer will negate purple shadows (i.e. dark circles), but “don’t pick a shade lighter than your skin tone; it’ll look grey,” adds Daleen.

DO invest in the right tools! For precision, a good concealer brush is key – go for synthetic bristles, which are easier to manoeuvre than natural ones, and a tapered tip for corners.

DON’T go too high. “Under-eye circles rarely reach the lash line,” says Daleen. “Only swoop concealer from the eye’s inner corner  – the light-reflecting particles will distract from darkness.”
